Heinz Benzawave – USB Microwave

Heinz Snap Pots launches the world's smallest microwave

Eating cold food is never pleasant but that has become the reality that most people have to deal with. Heating up food takes some time, time which is better spent doing something productive or getting to the place you need to be. People who live very hectic lives often live on whatever they can find quick and easy. Eating isn’t always a top priority especially when you are busy at work and finding food is often difficult, let alone finding the time to cook or heat it.

Heinz, in a partnership with Frazer Designers have created a device that lets you cook your food while never leaving your computer. They have created the smallest microwave in the world that is powered through the USB port of your computer. The device measures 7.4 inches tall, 6.2 inches wide, and 5.9 inches deep and gets all the power it needs from your computer or laptop, it therefore has no other connectors available aside from USB cable. Heinz have decided to call the device, oddly enough, as the Benzawave and is custom fit to cook single servings of “Snap Pots”, which are from Heinz. Even if it was meant for Heinz products, you can still cook anything that can fit in the confined space of this microwave. You can heat pizzas, burgers, or even your coffee in it.

People at Heinz and Frazer Designs have said that the device uses radio frequencies to heat the food inside the module. Some detractors have already stated that radio waves are carcinogenic based on some tests with mobile phones. This may be true but since you are cooking food in the microwave and not your brain, this type of allegations might not last very long.

Heinz have not started the production on this device just yet but are basing their decision for the final go ahead on the feedback of people who might like to use this device. Depending on the lifestyle that you live, a device like this might or might not come in handy. Personally, I’ve been searching for a device like this that could heat or reheat my coffee without requiring me to even leave my desk.
